About Johanna Gregory Partin
Founding Principal
I am an accomplished founder, director, and systems change leader with a firm commitment to and passion for just, equitable, and impactful sustainability and climate action. A clean energy policy leader, organizational strategist, and systems thinker, I have over 30 years of experience in deep decarbonization and ambitious climate action. I have worked both locally and in more than 15 countries around the world. My experience includes: • Founder and Director of the Carbon Neutral Cities Alliance, the world’s leading international network of ‘climate vanguard’ cities pioneering and scaling urban carbon neutrality innovations • Senior Policy Advisor on Climate and Sustainability to San Francisco Mayors Gavin Newsom and Edwin Lee, where I spearheaded many of the city’s groundbreaking climate, clean energy, and sustainable mobility policies and initiatives • Deputy Director at the Building Decarbonization Coalition, where I led the organization’s strategic growth into 10 new states and led the effort to center equity across the organization’s programs and operations • North America Regional Director for C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, where I managed the North America region for the world’s largest network of cities working to advance climate action and sustainability • Renewable Energy Program Manager at the San Francisco Department of Environment, where I led the city’s private sector renewable energy program and created an award-winning solar map, an innovative solar finance program, and other firsts • Energy Program Officer at Winrock International, where I led renewable energy project development in the global south and designed equitable clean energy monitoring and evaluation systems for the World Bank and USAID • Fellow at the Grameen Bank where I structured renewable energy microfinancing programs to power women’s enterprises I also serve or have served on several boards, including the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, Zero Foodprint, and the Pritzker Emerging Environmental Genius Award. I have a Masters degree in Energy and Environmental Policy from the University of Delaware and a Bachelors degree in Energy & Environmental Policy and Cultural Anthropology from UC Santa Barbara. I now work with leaders in the climate and sustainability space to help them maximize their impact and drive lasting change.
